Would Justin Verlander be open to Tigers reunion if traded by Astros?

The Houston Astros are just 18-25 on the season and suddenly in the thick of a race back to prominence in the American League West. The Astros currently feature Justin Verlander, one of the most legendary Detroit Tigers players in franchise history who is still chugging along at age 41.

The latest MLB rumor mill discussed the possibility of Verlander heading back to his original team, the Tigers, should the Astros and Detroit come to an agreement.

The news came amid praise for Verlander from Tigers first baseman Spencer Torkelsen. Verlander revealed his thoughts on a possible Detroit reunion.

It all could happen by the MLB trade deadline on July 30, if the latest rumors end up becoming true.

Astros, Tigers Could Play ‘Let’s Make a Deal’

The Astros could view Detroit as an ‘interesting landing spot’ for the legendary ex-Tiger according to a report from the New York Post.

Houston is likely to continue to fight for a playoff spot, the report said, but trading Verlander would start to look like more of a possibility should they fall further away from the top of the AL West Division.

According to unnamed sources, Verlander could be open to a Motor City return. The Dodgers, Orioles and Cubs are three other teams Verlander could rubber stamp should the 41-year-old right handed fireballer be dealt away from H-Town.

Tigers’ Pitching Staff Could Use Additional Help

The Tigers have a top ten ranked pitching staff but they rank 16th in the Majors in strikeouts and there are signs that the rotation could crack and fall back to the middle of the pack.

Tarik Skubal has become the ace AJ Hinch envisioned he would, but the Tigers’ other starting pitchers lack experience and All-Star Caliber stuff on the mound. Verlander is far from his prime, but  still has the bulldog mentality, experience and lively right arm necessary to carry the Tigers’ pitching staff, and team, to new heights.
