Latest betting odds show how far the Patriots have fallen

From 2001 to 2019, the New England Patriots were one of the most dominant franchises in the history of professional sports. Led by head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady, the Patriots appeared in nine Super Bowls since 2001, and they emerged victorious in six of them.

In NFL history, it's difficult to find a team that had as much success as New England did during a 19-year stretch.

Fast forward to today, and the Patriots are entering a brand-new era. Gone are Belichick and Brady, and in are Jerod Mayo and Drake Maye. The Patriots are hoping their new head coach and quarterback duo can lead them back to the top of the NFL, but it might take some time.

The reality of the Patriots being in the middle of a different era became extremely clear on Wednesday when the league released the 2024 regular-season schedules for all 32 teams.

In addition to only having one prime-time matchup on their 2024 schedule (Week 3 at the New York Jets), notable sports betting analyst Ben Fawkes also pointed out something very intriguing about each of the 17 games New England will be playing in next season.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Fawkes revealed that the Patriots are one of two teams in the NFL that aren't the betting favorite in any of their 17 contests during the 2024 campaign. The other team is the Carolina Panthers.

However, it doesn't seem like much of the Patriots' focus is on the upcoming season, as they are more concerned about building toward 2025, 2026 and beyond.

If Maye can make some significant strides in his development and New England continues to build around its new quarterback, then a return to glory could happen sooner rather than later.
